Frozen feeders for snakes and reptiles

Frozen feeders are easy to store at home, so you can keep a few meals on hand between trips to the store. Ask us what’s in the freezer when you call or come in.

Thaw a frozen feeder all the way through before you offer it, and never use the microwave. Then offer the meal with feeding tongs, so your hand stays clear of the strike.

Keep fish too? We also carry frozen food for your fishy friends. See our freshwater fish and reef and saltwater pages for more on the tanks.

Feeder care tips for home

A few simple habits keep your feeders healthy. In turn, that means a better meal for your pet.

  • Gut-load first. Feed your insects fresh greens, vegetables or a gut-load food before they go to your pet, so the nutrition passes on.
  • Dust before feeding. Coat insects lightly with a calcium or vitamin powder right before you offer them, as your vet or care sheet suggests.
  • Give crickets air. Keep them in a ventilated bin with egg crate to hide in. Also give them food and a water gel or a slice of vegetable instead of an open dish, because crickets drown easily.
  • Clean out the bin. Take out any dead crickets every day, since they foul the bin fast.
  • Pick the right size. Offer feeders your pet can swallow easily. If you’re not sure which size fits, ask us.
  • Don’t leave crickets loose. Remove any your pet doesn’t eat, because hungry crickets can nibble on a sleeping reptile.
  • Store worms the right way. Mealworms keep well in a cool spot. However, superworms don’t handle the cold, so keep them at room temperature.

Questions about feeders

Do you have feeders in stock right now?

Stock changes from day to day. So call the store before you make the trip, and we’ll tell you what’s in.

Which feeder is right for my reptile?

It depends on the animal, its size and its age. Come in or call, and we’ll help you choose. Also, our reptiles page covers the lighting, heat and enclosures that go with it.

Should I wash my hands after feeding?

Yes. Use soap and water after you handle feeder insects, frozen feeders or your pet, and after you clean the enclosure. Reptiles can carry Salmonella without looking sick (CDC).
